Results
"Our company is very pleased and excited with the results. It’s even more exciting to see an increase in our revenue stream. It couldn’t have come at a better time. For 20 years, I did not know about the SBDC. I want other Wisconsin businesses to know about and take advantage of this great resource.”

Three years ago Kinex talked with UW-Whitewater Small Business Development Director Bud Gayhart. Gayhart provided Kinex with an analysis of their human resources functions and practices, which resulted in the company creating a dedicated human resources team, an improved employee handbook, and new-hire interviewing practices, all of which are in use today. Recent increases in distributorships and new product launches resulted in rapid growth and new challenges for Kinex. In 2008, Kinex doubled the 2007 sales and doubled new employee hires. Scott Noles, technology and education manager for Kinex said, “This 2008 growth explosion posed new challenges for our company, and we wanted to take a look at our current business practices and systems that report equipment utilization. Kinex is completely paperless, and we wanted to find out how our data collection and dissemination could be more efficiently managed throughout the company.” A three-part project and final report involved, first, interviewing internal staff to acquire a better understanding of how the current software and the customer relationship management tools were being used; second, defining Kinex’s Business Intelligence Department’s role and perception of the current system, and, third, proposing different software packages that contain similar features and improvements over Kinex’s current system. Dr. Paul Ambrose, University of Wisconsin-Whitewater information technology expert, collaborated with the SBDC for the final recommendations and report. “The information provided in this report is great, and our process improvement will be ongoing,” Noles said. “The report gave us the basic information we need to move ahead to improve our system. We would definitely use the SBDC-Whitewater services again.” Scott Noles |
