  • Competitive Edge

"With the help of SBDC business student interns and the other resources that the SBDC provided, I was able to see what my competition was doing, what the standard expectations of my industry are and where I need to be to have the competitive edge." -  Cheryl Sment of Interstate Sealant & Concrete Inc.

  • Eye Opener

"The Business Plan Boot Camp was a real eye-opener in terms of letting you know that you can't just turn the key and go." - Roy Magsamen, RM Small Engine Repair, LLC
  • Future Development

“Bud helped me get my financials into a pro forma that I could use to get financing for the capital equipment I needed for my business. He has been very influential as far as introducing me to potential customers and government entities." - Dr. William Hubbard founder of Cytophil, a medical device development and manufacturing company

  • Results

"Our company is very pleased and excited with the results. It’s even more exciting to see an increase in our revenue stream. It couldn’t have come at a better time. For 20 years, I did not know about the SBDC. I want other Wisconsin businesses to know about and take advantage of this great resource.”

"The entrepreneurial training program put me on the right track.... Not only did the program help me with my business plan, but also it armed me with valuable business knowledge at an affordable cost. I recommend the course to any start up company or small business planning to expand."

The Opportunity to Profit course teaches you the fundamentals of running a business and guides you through the process of writing a customized business plan. Small Business Administration research shows that businesses with a written plan are far more likely to succeed than those without a plan.

"The entrepreneurial training course literally saved our business."

During the Opportunity to Profit process, you will learn how to target your market, analyze your competitors, develop realistic financial projections and examine your business’s strengths and weaknesses. When you finish the course and the advising sessions, you will have a complete business plan that you can use to seek financing and that will guide you each step of the way.

Participants who complete and submit an approved Business Plan are eligible to receive a Wisconsin Department of Commerce grant that covers 75 percent of the cost of Opportunity to Profit while grant funds are available. For more information about the grant and to apply online, click here.

"When I first started, I expected to write a plan to get some money. Now I feel focused. Our business is growing beyond our expectations financially, and our plan is geared toward goal setting. How wonderful." -Kathleen Tutton, Nature Friendly Landscaping
